Number familiarity & call back
How ripdr keeps the same outbound line per contact across drops, sequences, and live call-backs.
Last updated 2026-07-21
ripdr locks a ripdr phone number to each contact so they see a consistent caller ID across outreach. That makes callbacks recognizable and keeps multi-step sequences feeling like one conversation.
How a number gets assigned
On the first outbound touch to a contact, ripdr picks a ripdr line from your active numbers:
- Local match — prefers a line whose area code matches the contact’s phone (or ZIP when phone area code is missing)
- Rotation — if you don’t own a matching line yet, uses your normal number pool
- Lock — after that first touch, the exact line is saved on the contact and reused every time
The assigned line is also updated when they call you back on one of your ripdr numbers — ripdr pins them to the line they dialed.
You do not pick or manage this in Settings. It happens automatically.
Campaign audience hint
When you create a campaign, List review may suggest adding a local line if a large share of the audience shares one area code you don’t own yet. That is a soft hint — campaigns still start normally.
Same number on every touch
Once assigned, ripdr always uses that line for that contact:
- Quick Drop and campaigns
- Sequence voicemail and missed-call steps
- Live Call back from Tasks or the contact drawer
ripdr does not rotate to a different line because of per-number pacing or cooldown. Familiarity comes first — your contact keeps seeing the same caller ID even when that line would otherwise rest for bulk rotation.
The only times ripdr picks a different line:
- The contact has no assigned line yet and you don’t own a matching area code (rotation until first pin)
- The assigned line was removed from your org or disabled on the Numbers page
- A retry excludes that line after a failed attempt on the same target (rare)
If you own two lines in the same area code, ripdr picks one on first touch and keeps that exact number for the contact afterward — not a random swap between the two.
Calling someone back
When a prospect calls one of your ripdr numbers:
- The callback appears on Tasks → Callbacks
- Click Call back (or open the contact and use Call back in the drawer)
- ripdr rings your verified callback phone from Settings
- When you answer, you are connected to the prospect showing the same ripdr number they called (or their assigned line)
Requirements:
- A verified callback phone in Settings
- At least one active ripdr number
- The contact saved in CRM with a dialable phone (save unknown callers from the drawer first)
What you see in the app
- Tasks → Callbacks — Call back on matched contacts
- Contact drawer — Call back or Call, plus Your number for them when a line is assigned
- Starter (one line) — behavior matches before; every contact uses your included number
Tips
Tip Use one sequence per ICP and let number familiarity build across steps — callbacks are easier to recognize when the caller ID never changes.
Note Removing or disabling an assigned line clears it for affected contacts on the next outreach attempt; ripdr assigns a new line on the next successful touch.
